Mouthwatering BBQ Ribs

BBQ ribs are a classic and popular dish that is often enjoyed at backyard barbecues, picnics, and restaurants. They are typically made from pork, although beef ribs can also be used. The ribs are slow-cooked over indirect heat, usually using wood or charcoal, and are basted with a flavorful barbecue sauce.

The preparation of BBQ ribs typically starts with a dry rub, a mixture of spices such as paprika, cumin, brown sugar, and garlic powder, which is massaged into the meat before cooking. After that, the ribs are placed in a smoker or on a grill, and cooked for several hours until the meat is tender and falls off the bone.

Preparation of BBQ ribs

  1. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs: This is a thin, tough layer that can make the ribs chewy. Use a sharp knife or a spoon to loosen the membrane at one end of the rack and then use a paper towel to grip it and peel it off.
  2. Apply the dry rub: Mix together your choice of spices such as paprika, cumin, brown sugar, garlic powder, and salt. Rub the mixture all over the ribs, making sure to cover both sides evenly.
  3. Allow the ribs to marinate in the rub for at least 1 hour or up to overnight in the refrigerator.
  4. Preheat the smoker or grill to 225-250 degrees F (110-120 degrees C) and add the wood chips or chunks for smoke.
  5. Place the ribs in the smoker or on the grill, meat side up. Close the lid and cook for 3-4 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C) for pork, or 160°F (71°C) for beef.
  6. Brush the ribs with BBQ sauce during the last 20-30 minutes of cooking.
  7. Remove the ribs from the smoker or grill and let them rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.

You can also slow cook the ribs in oven, by wrapping it in foil and putting it in the oven at 250F (120C) for 4-5 hours or until the meat is fall off the bone tender.
